Hello February!

February 4, 2010

It’s frosty February but old man winter can’t keep a good TIBS down!

Hello everyone! Apologies for being so slow to update this old website of ours. In case you’ve missed us, please feel free to join our facebook page for constant nattering and insanely, up-to-the-minute news. We have officially passed the 3 month mark! (as of yesterday). You know what they say about lucky number 3 - if you’re still in love the chances of making it to the 6 month mark are pretty good! (and a year, and 2 and so on and so on). Things don’t get dicey again til the 3 year mark .. or so we hear anyway. Things are looking great for your favourite little Dartmouth nook.

Speaking of which, do you have a favourite drink yet? How about those croissants of the week hey? We’ve made some amazing friends and look forwarding to opening up those windows in a few months and serving you all beverages on our sidewalk patio. (wishful thinking yes, but inevitable!).

Stay warm and see you at TIBS!

Two If By Sea Café inks future with Founder’s Corner

Two If By Sea Café inks future with Founder’s Corner

Supporters of local, independent business in Dartmouth will soon be tempted with the best specialty coffee and croissants in the region. Two If By Sea Café solidified its commitment to the community by signing a deal Friday, which will see the café occupy space in the newly built Founder’s Corner Condominium Project. Located at the corner of Octerloney and Wentworth Streets, Founder’s Corner is neighbour to upscale eating establishment Nectar and renowned salon and spa, Interlude.

“It was not enough to simply have a coffee shop, we wanted people with a commitment to be the very best in what they do and take an active part in serving their community,” explains Terry Brennan, President Nova New England Group and visionary behind the building.  “After several meetings with the proprietors of  ‘Two If By Sea Cafe’, it became clear to me that we had achieved this goal.”

Set for grand opening in late September, Two If By Sea is committed to tradition, flavour and quality in pastry and artisan-crafted coffees. With its perfectly pulled espresso and rich, buttery croissants, the cafe will provide treats heavenly enough to tempt even the staunchest coffee and pastry aficionado.

Co-owners, Zane Kelsall and Tara MacDonald couldn’t be happier to see this vision come to life.

“ Founder’s Corner is going to help build a lively and new energetic community in the heart of Dartmouth,” says Kelsall. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it.”

Kelsall will be leaving his duties of manager and master barista at Halifax’s popular café, Steve-o-Rino’s Cappuccino in order to pursue this venture.

A recent newcomer to the HRM, Tara MacDonald started baking croissants as a way to get involved in her new community. “We moved to Dartmouth and I set up shop at the Farmer’s Market every Saturday as a way to befriend my neighbours,” she explains.

“The support was so overwhelming that the logical next step was to explore a more permanent, full-time location.”

Easter TREATS!

Easter means another reason to chomp chocolate, spring buds, mud and salty air at the morning market. I love it! In celebration of our Easter Saturday together, i have created these cute little gift baskets. Each basket includes a sweet little candy dish, handy wooden spoon, one hand-screened tea towel (with various designs) and a super sweet scalloped pot mitt (in retro cherry and pink polka dot designs). A really great gift if i do say so myself. Check them out below! I’ll have them at the market with my this Saturday if anyone would like a closer inspection of the goods!! See you there - April 11th! t.

Oh, hello.

March 18, 2009

Happy Hump Day! This is actually my Friday as i get to sleep in on Thursday mornings. (only day of the week i can). It’s not so bad really. The world is really calm during the pre-dawn et al hours. Traffic is pretty much nil and even our infamous pot holes seem a little less giant. I just finished 10 batches of dough-age. It didn’t actually take me very long as i’m sort of a maverick now. Ten? Pi-shaw … nothing. Talk to me around 15 or so .. that’s when things start to get a little goofy .. hazy … and crazy! Mark is going to take my place at the Market this Saturday as i have to work late, late on Friday night at a show. He’s such a trooper. I just wouldn’t really be able to speak if i did both. I didn’t want to miss the Market two weeks in a row so he opted to help me out. So nice. Be gentle.

FAT-igue chance

March 12, 2009

Hello pastry lovers! I am sad to report that i won’t be able to make it to the Dartmouth Farmer’s Market this Saturday. I’ve had the flu all week and as the sole employee, couldn’t make the dough. I hate it when my body doesn’t function as i’m a bit of a drill sergeant. I was nauseous in class on Monday in front of all the students! It was awful. The intruder quickly spread and i’ve been laid up ever since. See you next Saturday! Very sorry for any inconveniences. t.
